Rettig Confirmed by Senate to be the Next Commissioner of the IRS

On July 24, 2018 we posted that the Senate Approves Charles "Chuck" Rettig as IRS Commissioner! where we discussed that the Senate Finance Committee approved Chuck Rettig to be the next commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, which means that the full Senate may now have the opportunity to consider his nomination.

Now  according to Law360 the U.S. Senate on September 12, 2018 confirmed Chuck Rettig, a seasoned litigator with Hochman Salkin Rettig Toscher & Perez PC, to be the next commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

By a 64-33 vote, the Senate confirmed Rettig, who was nominated by President Donald Trump for the position in February. He will replace David Kautter, the acting commissioner of the IRS and assistant secretary for tax policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Rettig takes the helm as the IRS continues to implement last year’s federal tax overhaul and following significant declines in the agency's workforce and budget over the last several years.

A Beverly Hills, California, lawyer, Rettig was a visible face at tax conference panels across the country, an active participant on the advisory boards of multiple federal and state taxing authorities and a published author in national tax-related publications. This appointment of Mr. Rettig to be the IRS Commissioner, coupled with a 2019 IRS budget increase, further enforces our conclusion that the IRS is Back!

Congratulations & Good Luck Chuck!

Looks Like the IRS is Back in Business!
